Formed in 1957 at the AVRO factory at Woodford, the Unit, consisting of less than a dozen Officers and NCO's of the RAF was sent out to Edinburgh Air Field near Elizabeth - South Australia to carry out trials on the, then new, guided missile (Blue Steel), which was to be carried by the Avro Vulcan bomber.

Solway Aviation Museum - Carlisle
The Solway Aviation Museum is run by volunteers from the Solway Aviation Society, and owns nine aircraft - the most prominent of which is an Avro Vulcan bomber, XJ823. They can be viewed at their site, which is part of Carlisle Airport, Cumbria.
